INDIVIDUAL COURSE INFO:
SHEDHORN - PRO/OPEN/ESPOIR/JR
This race will be approximately 13-15 miles, with 7500' elevation gain.
PRONGHORN - REC/CADET
This event is approximately 7.5 miles, and has a 4,000' - 4,600' elevation gain.
GEAR REQUIREMENTS:
Individual Race:
Start: Gear check for beacon/probe/shovel/crampons/helmet worn will be done for entry to the starting corral.
Finish: A detailed finish line gear check will be performed for top finishers of each division.

Boots - Toe and heel pieces must be the same brand.

Probe - 240cm minimum length

2 bottom layers (which must include at least one windbreaker outer layer in addition to lycra, and may be stowed in pack)
3 top layers (which must include at least one windbreaker outer layer in addition to lycra, and may be stowed in pack)

Backpack (With two connection points, for skis to be carried on boot packs)

Valid ID that can be checked upon request at the finish line.
Rules:
Top rules to pay attention to (in no particular order)
Poles on the ground during transitions
Skins have to be put away in ski suit or backpack before leaving transition zones - no skins hanging out of the race suit or backpack.
Must follow flags for mode of locomotion (green = up with skins, yellow = up with boots, red = down with skins off and binding heels engaged)
Follow course markings on ascent and descent
Skis must be secured with 2 attachments for boot pack and via ferrata sections
Yield track if required - Please make way for top racers (top women are often mixed with mid pack men, so please give way to them) and racers overtaking you
Help others in distress or danger
No littering, gear ditching, or gear caching
No outside assistance.
Due to the nature of alpine terrain, and the highly variable conditions that may be present during the day of the race, we have included a potentially required gear list that will be decided upon the morning of the race. Come prepared with the entire gear list.
This is a technical ski mountaineering race and is designed to test multiple skill sets:
Mountaineering skills:
4 alpine climbs with exposure over cliffs and/or above 1,200 ft avalanche paths with falls resulting in serious injury and/or death
knife edge climbing
50+ degree boot packs
Ski ability: 4 Alpine ski descents:
4 alpine ski descents
Be prepared to ski 45+ degree terrain with ski/fall potential of up to 1,200 ft. Falls in these areas, depending on conditions could result in serious injury and/or death.
Endurance:
This race course reaches 11,166 ft.
Pre-race meeting is on Friday, March 3, at 5:30 PM located in the Jefferson room of the Shoshone Conference Center. The entrance to the conference center is across from the mountain mall entrance by the steps where the 15 minute parking lot is located. Upon entering the basement level of the building, walk down the hall and hang your first right down the hallway past the bathrooms. From there it will be obvious. The pre-race meeting is not required, but highly recommended for first time racers. Participants will also pick up their racer packets at this location. This room will be locked for safekeeping until 6:30 AM the following day.
All participants will need to arrive at 6:30 AM the morning of the race to the Jefferson room in order to get their mandatory gear checked off. This room will be locked at 7:45 AM for safekeeping until 6:00 PM. The race will begin at 8:00 AM.
